Irresponsible criticism harms judiciary

DHAKA: Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha on Saturday urged not to make irresponsible criticism of judiciary as it harms the vital pillar of the state severely.

He said, “Like other institutions, judiciary may face fair criticism, if necessary. But irresponsible criticism will cause irreparable damage to it.”

He made the comment while addressing a seminar on digitization of trial process as chief guest.

The seminar titled 'Digitization of Bangladesh Judiciary’, was held at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in city on Saturday.

The Chief Justice also said the rule of law is very important in the country. All decisions should be taken keeping this in mind.

Finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith and law minister Anisul Huq attended the seminar as special guests.

ICT affairs state minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak, PMO principal secretary Abul Kalam Azad and UN Resident Coordinator Robert Watkins were also present at the event.

The Supreme Court organized the seminar in cooperation with UN development agency UNDP and Bangladesh government.
