HC asks to stop Lux ad

DHAKA: The High Court (HC) Tuesday asked the Unilever Bangladesh to stop the illegal advertisements offering gold lockets for purchasing Lux soap.

An HC bench comprising Justice Moinul Hossain Chowdhury and M Ashraful Kamal passed the order following a writ public litigation.

The court also issued a rule why action should not be taken against Unilever under the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

Secretaries of Home and Commerce ministries, IGP, DMP Commissioner, Gulshan Thana OC and Unilever have been made respondents and asked to reply within four weeks.

Advocate Tawhidul Islam, who moved for the writ, said, “Under the section 294 (b) of the CrPC, circulating such advertisements are punishable offence.”
