DHAKA: The fifth National VAT Day and the VAT Week was observed on Friday.
The theme of this year’s National VAT Day and VAT Week was “Pay the VAT timely to participate in the development of the country”.
To mark the day, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) brought out a rally from the NBR Bhaban and ended in front of the National Press Club in city.
State Minister for Finance and Planning MA Mannan inaugurated the rally releasing pigeons and balloons in the morning.
The VAT Week will be observed till July 16 for the 5th consecutive year.
Earlier on Thursday, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in separate messages, urged the people to extend their cooperation in making VAT system effective to generate revenue for the development of the country.
In the messages, the officials of the tax administration were advised to work with sincerity and for the wellbeing of the people and the country.
In the rally, NBR chairman M Najibur Rahman, Customs Intelligence & Investigation Directorate director general Dr Moinul Khan, Revenue Board Member, Tax Zone commissioner and officers-employees of different tax zones participated.
On July 12, a total of 119 personalities and organizations will be awarded in recognition of their contribution to highest collection and payment of VAT in the national and district levels in the fiscal year 2013-2014 in a programme at Bangabandhu International Conference Center.
