CHITTAGONG: Despite authority’s initiative to create public awareness against mob justice, another woman on Tuesday night fell victim of a kidnap hoax that is going around in the city for last few days.

Aged around 30, the woman was beaten to death by a mob in Boubazar area under Bakolia Thana suspecting her as a kidnapper (Chheledhara).

“She was another victim of the rumours of child kidnapping that has spread in the city for last few days,” said Syed Mesbah Uddin, Assistant Commissioner of Metropolitan special branch of police.

The woman was known as a beggar in the area, he added.    

However, locals claimed that the stranger had been found roaming around the area for last few days.

With the latest instance of lynching, three people, two of them women, were killed and a number others also injured in mob beating in the+ district in last few days over the child-trafficking hoax.

Authorities concerned are trying to create mass awareness in the port city through microphone publicity to stem the tide of the frenzy.
