DHAKA: The breakdown in e-ticketing at Bangladesh Railway has created immense sufferings for the homebound Eid holidaymakers as they are not getting tickets even after hours-long efforts.
Passengers of e-tickets are experiencing disruptions as the server goes off-line and sometimes it crashes. They are also temporarily loosing money from their cards.
Bangladesh Railway had developed the system aimed at providing hassle-free ticketing. But in practice, the system has made ticketing a hurdle.
Many of the passengers complained that they had repeatedly tried to buy a ticket through online from the very beginning of the date for advance ticket sale. But they have failed to get a ticket. It has, no doubt, annoyed them.
They have also commented that the system of online ticketing is now ‘dead’.
An IT professional Mostafiz Chowdhury told banglanews that he was attempting to buy tickets but see the server crashed. Sometimes, he saw the server showing ‘off-line’.
Though the e-ticketing system was introduced to provide tickets easily, but in fact, the passengers are facing hurdle to get one, he added.
A North-South University student Mehrun Nawshaba said that she tried to buy tickets on July 13 and 14 through online but did not succeed.
‘Server does not function properly,’ she said adding more, ‘there is no contact number of the service providing organization in the site to complain about the situation’.
Railway sources said that Computer Network System (CNS) has been providing computer-controlled seat reservation and ticketing system. This organization has also been providing other services including e-ticket, monitoring and development.
Several railway officials complained that though CNS has failed to provide the service smoothly, they have powerful influence in Bangladesh Railway to run their business well.
