MYMENSINGH: Police sought seven-day remand for the accused over the death of 27 people in a stampede in Nurani Jorda Factory in the district.
Kotwali Thana Sub-Inspector Mushfiqur Rahman produced the eight accused, including factory owner Shamim Talukder and his son, before the senior judicial magistrate Ahsan Habib of the Cognizance Court with the remand petition on Saturday.
Confirming the matter, Mymensingh Court Inspector Shuk Rana fixed Sunday for the hearing.
On the other hand, Town Police Inspector (TSI) Saidul Islam of town’s police outpost no. 2 has been suspended for negligence in his duties during the zakat distribution.
Additional police super Moinul Haque issued the order on Saturday noon, says Kotwali Thana OC Kamrul Islam.
On Friday dawn, at least 27 people died and several others sustained injuries in a stampede over distribution of zakat in the factory in Mymensingh.
