DHAKA: International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 is set to pronounce its verdict in war crimes case against Forkan Mallik of Patuakhali on Tuesday.

The 3-member tribunal led by Justice Obaidul Hasan fixed the date on Tuesday.

On June 14, the same court kept the judgment CAV as Forkan Mollik’s lawyer Abdus Salam Khan concluded placing arguments.

CAV (Curia Advisari Vult) is a Latin legal term which means the court wishes to be advised (judgement is reserved).

The five charges include genocide, murder, rape, conversion, looting and arson committed in different places of Patuakhali during the 1971 War of Independence.

Earlier on June 1, the prosecution, completing closing arguments on factual paints, sought capital punishment for Forkan Mallik for his alleged crimes against humanity in Mirzaganj upazila of Patuakhali in 1971.

A total of 14 witnesses, including investigation officer Datya Ranjan Roy, gave depositions against Forkan form January 19-April 19 while four witnesses gave depositions in support of Forkan from April 26 to May 17.

On January 19, prosecutor placed opening statement against Forkan Mollik.

On December 5, the tribunal took the charges of crimes against humanity against Forkan Mollik, a ‘Razakar commander’ from Mirzaganj of Patuakhali, into cognizance.

On November 17, the prosecution submitted the formal charge before the ICT-2l, with eight counts crimes against humanity including genocide, murder, rape, conversion, looting among others.

Earlier on October 27, the investigation agency of the ICT submitted the final report on investigation to the prosecution, with five charges.

Police arrested Forkan on June 25 and the tribunal sent him to jail for his alleged crimes against humanity during the War of Independence.
