Landslide fears as heavy rain forecast

DHAKA: The met office forecasted that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur in five divisions due to active monsoon over Bangladesh.

Monsoon is active over Bangladesh and moderate elsewhere over North Bay.

Meteorologist Abul Kalam Mollik said that heavy to heavy rain is likely to occur at places over Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions during next 24 hrs commencing 10 am  Friday.    

Due to very heavy rainfall landslide may occur at places over the hilly regions of Chittagong and Sylhet divisions, he added.

In Dhaka and its neighborhood, the skies will remain cloudy to overcast as well as light to moderate rain is likely to occur over the area.

Besides, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur in next 72 hrs.

He further said light to moderate rain/thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at most places over Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong, Dhaka, Sylhet, Rajshahi & Rangpur divisions.

The axis of monsoon trough runs through Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gangetic, West Bengal and thence northeastwards to Assam across central part of Bangladesh. One of its associated troughs extends to Northwest Bay.

According to inland riverport warning, in association with rain or thunder showers temporary south or south-easterly gusty/squally wind speed 45-60 kph is likely to occur over the regions of Rajshahi, Rangpur, Pabna, Bogra, Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Faridpur, Jessore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barisal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Comilla, Chittagong Cox’s Bazar And Sylhet wherein riverports shall hoist cautionary signal number one.
