Ministers agree on Dhaka-Katmandu bus service

DHAKA: Transport ministers of Bangladesh and Nepal have agreed to commence bus service between the two neighboring countries.

Bangladesh road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader and his Nepal counterpart Bimalendu Nidhi express their eagerness on the service in a meeting held in Nepal’s capital Katmandu on Sunday.

In a press release, road transport ministry said that the ministers discussed on the implementation of the motor vehicle movement treaty signed by Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal by January next.

According to the release, the ministers hoped that all stakeholders of the treaty would complete their respective preparation by this December.

They also discussed on the preparation of a car rally in the signing countries in October.

However, a joint-secretary level meeting is scheduled to be held in Dhaka in second week of September to finalize the protocol regarding the rally.

The ministers also agreed to push the South Asia Association of Regional Cooperation (SAARC) motor vehicle agreement issue forward.

Bangladesh ambassador to Nepal Mashfee Binte Shams, embassy second secretary Mohamamd Bariqul Islam, Bangladesh transport ministry senior information officer Abu Naser and Nepal transport ministry officials also attended the meeting.
