DHAKA: In response to summon by the Supreme Court (SC), Bangla daily ‘Dainik Janakantha’ editor Atiquallah Khan Masud and executive editor Swadesh Roy appeared before it on Monday.
They will explain before an appealed division bench headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha regarding an article published in the daily mentioning a meeting between judges and family members of death row convict war criminal Salauddin Quader Chowdhury.
Earlier on July 29, the appellate division bench had summoned them asking to appear before it on August 3.
On July 16, the daily published an article that raised questions how the family members of convicted war criminal met Supreme Court’s judges.
The article written by Swadesh Roy, headlined ‘Activities of SQ family: Escape Route Narrowed’.
After upholding the death penalty of Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, a four-member Appellate Division bench, led by the Chief Justice, issued the order asking ‘Janakantha’ editor and its executive editor to explain about it.
