GAZIPUR: Road Transport and Bridges minister Obaidul Quader on Saturday said development is not possible by threatening life in earning livelihood.

“We are running towards our goals. But development is not possible by taking dead bodies over the shoulder or threatening life to earn livelihood,” the minister made the assertion while visiting at Chandana intersection on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway.

He also ordered the authorities concerned to remove billboards from highways by August adding, “Otherwise, he will start removing those from September”.
 
However, the government issued ban on plying auto-rickshaws and three-wheelers through 22 highways across the country from August 1.

During the time, the minister claimed that initially the decision of banning three-wheelers from highways have received public support.

The minister also said that popularity can be achieved by installing billboards. These will be taken away from highways in August. Otherwise, the ministry will remove those from September.

He also urged media persons to play role in creating public awareness regarding the government drives.

High-ups of Gazipur road department and police department, among others, were present during the minister’s visit.
