CHANDPUR: Railway police detained a passenger with 10 gold bars, weighing 100 tolas, from the Meghna Express train Saturday midnight.

The detainee is identified as Mridul Kanti Dhar, 40, son of Juneram Dhar of Patia upazila of Chittagong.

Chandpur railway thana assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Abul Kalam Azad told banglanews that acting on tip-off police searched passengers of the train and detained Mridul with 10 gold bars.

He came to Chandpur from Chittagong to smuggle the gold bars. He was scheduled to go to Dhaka from Chandpur by launch, the ASI added.
 
Railway thana OC Osman Gani said case was filed against him under special power act 1974. He will produce before court Sunday.
