Utility test for metro-rail underway

DHAKA: The work on metro-rail project has started in the capital. Before start of the work it is necessary to examine the locations of the utility services (gas, waterlines and electricity cables) under the road.

This scene was observed on Tuesday (August 11) night from Mirpur-10 to Farmgate area of the city.

On spot visit, it was found that the laborers had been digging to check the physical existence of the utility lines at two spots and next the dug places were filled with sand.

A laborer Shafiqul Islam told banglanews that the workers in several shifts from morning to night are digging trenches.

Now, the digging is going on from Mirpur to Motijheel via Firmgate, he added.

He further said that the digging has started fifteen days back from Uttara.

However, this work of digging has caused serious traffic jam increasing the sufferings to the commuters, who travel on these routes to attend their own business or offices.

One such sufferer Shamim Mia, a bus driver on Mirpur route, told banglanews that this digging work has caused traffic jam throughout the day.

According to him, the congestion gradually increases following the office hours.

One passenger traveling in a bus of United Paribahan Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid had gone to Mirpur from Motijheel in the morning for personal work.

In the evening when he started from Mirpur, his bus had halted for half an hour at Mirpur-10 circle.
