DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid her rich tribute to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his 40th martyrdom anniversary placing floral wreaths at his mazar (tomb) in Tungipara of Gopalganj on Saturday morning.
Later, she prayed for Bangabandhu and the martyrs of the August 15 at around 10:00am.
Then, she joined fateha and special munajat that offered seeking salvation of the departed souls of Bangabandhu and his dear ones lost this day in 1975 in one of the bloodiest coups in the world.
She will also join milad and special duo mahfil to be arranged at the tomb of Bangabandhu.
Cabinet members, members of the parliament, central leaders of Awami League and its associate organizations, senior civil and military officers were also present at the programmes of National Mourning Day.
Besides, the premier will also join a milad mahfil to be arranged by Bangladesh Mohila Awami League at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi in afternoon.
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was assassinated at his house at Dhanmondi in a military putsch on August 15, 1975, along with most members of his family.
The predawn attacks left a total of 24 people dead. Bangabandhu’s two daughters--Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana -- could escape the bloodbath as they were abroad at the time.
