DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called upon fire service and civil defense officials to discharge their duties with sincerity, patriotism and highest professionalism for the welfare of people.
Remembering their contribution during BNP-Jamaat’s valance following the national elections, she said, “Be trusted friend of people during disasters like of that period. It is also duty and responsibility of every fire service man”.
The PM made this assertion while addressing the inaugural ceremony of ‘Fire Service and Civil Defense Week-2015’ on Wednesday in city.
Earlier, the premier witnessed parade of fire service members and special drill.
In her speech, PM Hasina declared that the number fire stations will be as many as 549 in 2016 and manpower will increase to 15,000 from existing 8, 354.
After that, groundbreaking changes will come in Fire Service and Civil Defense sector, she hoped.
Recalling that her government, after assuming power in 2009, took decision to set up a fire service station in each upazila, the Prime Minister said as part of that initiative, the government has build 100 new fire stations till date.
