DHAKA: Two defense lawyers went back Friday evening after they had waited at the gate of Dhaka Central Jail for four hours to meet death row convict war criminal BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury.

The lawyers -- Advocate Huzzatul Islam Khan Al Fesani and Advocate Zakaria Islam -- waited at the gate from around 1:45pm to 5:45pm.

The lawyers said they had waited at the gate to meet Salauddin. They also said they would try later to meet him to discuss whether he would seek mercy from the President.

However, as per provisions, no one except family members is allowed to meet the death convict at this stage.

Meanwhile, two experienced executioners -- Shajahan and Razu -- are ready to carry out the death sentences of war criminals Jamaat leader Ali Ahsan Mujahid and BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury.

Besides, another executioner named Sattar has been kept standby, Jail authority confirmed on Thursday night.

Earlier on Thursday night, verdicts of the review appeal were read out to the both convicts.
