Parents kill 27 children in 6 month

DHAKA: Parents had killed their 27 children mostly kids for marital dispute, dowry, extra-marital affairs, drugs and other issues from January to August 12 this year.

In these days, mothers killed their 13 children and fathers killed 14 making the figure double than of the previous year.

The fact came to know by analyzing media news of six month.

At least 15 kids were killed by their parents from January to December last year.

Bangladesh National Women Bar Council executive director Advocate Salma Ali told banglanews that there is no statistics about the killing. But the real scenario will be worse if compared to the reported incidents.

The prime reasons of the incidents are marital dispute, dowry, extra marital affairs, drugs, pornography, women repression and other issues, she thought.

A statistic by police showed that every day 13 people were killed for family dispute and 29 people committed suicide for the crisis, moreover 57 women became the victim of torture.

A statement of rights organization ‘Ain o Salish Kendra’ (ASK) said that at least 239 women reportedly killed for family dispute from January to June.

Dhaka University Education and Counseling Psychology department professor Dr Shamim Ferdous Karim told banglanews that the main reason of family dispute of social and moral decadence which leads to crimes.

To overcome the crisis, he suggested cherishing children properly from their early age. In educational institutions, some seminars on social and moral awareness should be arranged with the participation of students.

UNICEF communication officer AK Sakil said the organization gave a statement on August 6 defaming the repression against children.

The UN body hopes that the government will take steps to stop the repression, he added.
