Murder accused killed in ‘gunfight’

KUSHTIA: An accused of murder cases was killed in a gunfight between police and a gang of criminals near to Jagati Chechua rail bazaar in Khustia sadar early Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Jakir Hossain, 30, accused of Juba League leader Sabuj killing case and Jatiyatabadi Samajtantrick Dal (JSD) leader Panjer killing case.

Kushtia DB police officer-in-charge Sabbir-ul-Alam said acting on tip-off that a gang of criminals were holding secret meeting for committing subversive acts.

A team of DB police went to Jagati Chechua rail bazaar to arrest criminals around 1:30am. Sensing the presence of police, the criminals opened fire on them. In retaliation, lawmen also fired back that triggered a gunfight.

After half-an-hour gunfight, criminals retreated from the scene of an offence. Later, police recovered an unidentified man, who sustained bullet injuries.

The injured was taken to Kushtia General Hospital where duty doctor declared him dead.

Later, it was came to know that name of the dead is Jakir Hossin, son of Razzak driver of Mirpur uapzila.

Five police members were injured during the gunfight. Later, the lawmen recovered a locally made gun, two Hasuas (locally made weapon) and three rounds bullets from the spot.

Injured policemen Uzzal Hossain, kanak Reza, Sarwar Hossain, Anisur Rahman and Sujun took treatment at Kushtia General Hospital.
