Bangladeshi shot dead in South Africa

NOAKHALI: A Bangladeshi businessman was shot to death in Johannesburg of South Africa on Tuesday (August 18) night for declining to pay extortion.

The deceased was identified as Alauddin Jewel, son of one Khaja Main Uddin, hailed from Baliakandi village under Senbagh Upazila of the district.

Confirming the matter, family sources told banglanews Alauddin went to South Africa in 2004.

In the night of Tuesday, he was sleeping at his residence there. During the time, some local miscreants come and asked for extortion.

Later, they shot Alauddin indiscriminately as he declined to pay and looted his house, family sources added.

Local Bangladeshis rushed him to a hospital where on-duty doctor declared him dead on arrival.

Family members sought government’s help to bring the body to country quickly.
