Village clash in Gopalganj injures 37, seven by bullet

GOPALGANJ: At least 37 people were injured, seven by air-gun bullet, in a clash between two groups of villagers in the district on Saturday morning, police said.

Among the bullet-wounded are Miraj Mollah, 42, Monir Mollah, 36, Farhad Mollah, 33, and Osman Sheikh.

They were rushed to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital in critical condition and the other injured admitted into different clinics here.

Police sources said the clash took place between Uttarpara and Maddhapara of Pathalia village.

Injured Monir Mollah said there had been a dispute between Mizan Mollah and Abul Kalam centering supremacy over Pathalia village under Borashi union.

The activists of Kalam group assaulted Monir of Mizan group on Friday evening, triggering the troubles.

Tension spread between the two groups following the incident. The two sides locked horns in a fighting with lethal weapons that left 37 wounded, including seven by airgun bullet.

Officer-in-Charge of Gopalganj thana Borhan Uddin said, “Now the situation is under control.”
