20 fishermen kidnapped at Bay

BARGUNA: A group of bandits kidnapped 20 fishermen from Bay of Bengal near Pakhidia area of Pathardhata upazila of Barguna district on Sunday.

District trawler owner association president Golam Mostafa told banglanews that the sea robber abducted the fishermen demanding ransom.

They also took goods worth of Tk 25 lakh including fishing net, fishes, he added.

Earlier on Sunday, six fishermen were kidnapped from the same area near Sundabans and the coast guards are trying to rescue the abduct people.

Coast Guard Patharghata station commander lieutenant SA Rauf told banglanews that a team has been conducting drives at Bay to nab the robbers.

Assistant superintendent of police (Betagi Circle) Abdur Rob Hawlader said the dacoits have thrown a challenge to the law enforcers as they usually conduct drives in land.

We are trying to rescue the fisherman along with arresting the culprits, he added.
