DHAKA: Some 110 members of Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) will leave for Haiti to join United Nations’ peacekeeping mission.
A conference was held at Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) base ‘Bashar’ on Wednesday to give guidelines to the Haiti goers.
At the programme, BAF chief of staff Air Vice marshal Abu Esrar said, “Since 1993, we've started serving in peacekeeping missions. 4,600 people served in the mission during the period. Five hundred people are still working in different countries.”
The Air Force chief said, The people, who newly are to join the mission, will not an individual, you will whole Bangladesh. If you do any wrong, it will tarnish country’s image.”
The 110-member team started their journey from Friday gradually. Three MI-17 helicopters will also be deployed with the team, said BAF sources.
Bangladesh members are to go the country of West Indian Islands for the first time to keep peace.
