BHOLA: A fisherman was shot to death and 20 others were bullet-shot as sea robbers opened fire on them in Kalkini area under Char Fashion upazila in Bay of Bengal on Friday evening.

They were brought to Daulatkhan Saturday morning.

The deceased was identified as Sidu Majhi (40), son of Azgar Majhi of Bhabanipur of the upazila. Of the bullet-wound fishermen, four were identified as Mosleuddin, Mizan, Mesbah, Rafiq, Nurul Islam and Shah Alam, admitted at different hospitals in Daulatkhan, Bhola and Barisal.

Locals said that the fishermen of Daulatkhan upazila were fishing in the Bay of Bengal. A gang of robbers snatched four fishing trawlers at gunpoint around 5:00pm and to 7:00pm on Friday.

At one stage of mass robbery, they stabbed fishermen with sharp weapons and opened fire on them as they obstructed the mugging.

Daulatkhan Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Abul Bashar confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Body of the deceased has been sent to Bhola Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy and a murder case will be filed soon with the adjacent thana, he added.
