1 dies, 200 hospitalised for pneumonia-diarrhoea scourge in Thakurgaon

THAKURGAON: One child died and more than 200 were attacked with pneumonia and diarrhoea in last 24 hours as the double-scourge broke out in an epidemic form in the district, according to medical sources.

Five-month-old Babu, son of Jagadish Chandra of Debipur Mulani village under sadar upazila, was undergoing treatment at Modern Sadar Hospital before his death at 10 am Friday.

Meanwhile, at least 95 children have been admitted to Sadar Hospital and more than 40 to four other upazila health complex and private clinics, said the civil surgeon office.

“Change in season and hot weather caused the outbreak of the diseases,” child specialist Dr Shajahan Newaj told banglanews24.com.bd.

“The situation is under control and we have enough medicine. But patients are getting place on floor and balcony for crisis of bed,” said Civil Surgeon Dr Abu Mohammad Khairul Kabir.
