GAZIPUR: Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal underscored the need for a database to identify criminals easily in keeping the country’s law and order situation under control.
‘Consequently, the process of creating a criminal database has already started in the association with National ID and Passport office database,’ the home boss made this disclosure while addressing a program at Kashimpur Central jail in Gazipur district on Wednesday (January 20).
The minister inaugurated the “Prison Week” through releasing balloons and unveiling plaques of a number of development projects.
He said the government has taken new projects, including luggage scanner, body scanner and other security apparatuses so that terrorists or drug lords cannot bring mobile phone or other banned objects to the prison.
Inspector General of the prison Sayed Iftekhar Uddin welcomed the home minister on arrival at Kashimpur around 11:00am.
The minister, however, enjoyed a pleasant march-past performed by the prison guards.
Later, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal presented three prison officials with crests at the program.
In addition, he inaugurated the district jails in Dinajpur, Netrokona and Sunamganj and exhibition and sale center of the Kashimpur jail.
Home secretary Mozammel Haque Khan and various government and senior civil and military officials were present at the program.
