CHITTAGONG:  An engineer was killed and his wife injured as a vehicle crashed down a culvert in Kalgarh area under Chandanaish upazila in the district Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Swapan Kumar Barua, 50, executive engineer of Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL)  Bandarban office.

Officer-in-Charge of Chandanaish thana Moshiur Rahman said the accident took place when the engineer along with his wife Dipika was coming to Chittagong from Bandarban hill district.

"The engineer`s pickup van tumbled down the roadside culvert at the spot, leaving Swapan and his wife critically injured," the OC said.

Highway police rushed to the spot and rescued and sent the injured to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

Uday Sangkar, Registrar of the CMCH casualty department, said Engineer Swapan died on way to the hospital. "Dipika`s condition is critical," he added.
