Birth Registration system not followed

Dhaka: The obligation of submitting birth certificate for availing sixteen essential services is not being maintained.

The government has declared to materialize this obligation with the respective law in July 3, 2006 but so far was not in action.

The director of Birth and Death Registration Project A K M Saiful Islam Chowdhury Sunday alleged this at a seminar  on birth resistration at the Dhaka Reporters Unity.

Dhaka Reporters Unity(DRU) and UNICEF jointly organized the seminar where the president of DRU Shameem Ahmed, general secretary Pathik Shaha and the communication and information chief of UNICEF Christine Jaulmes were present.

Expressing his discontent Saiful Ahmed said the government has formulated Birth Registration Act in 2004 realizing its necessity and declared to impiement it  in issuing passport, during admission in educational institution, opening bank account and 13 other essentials services. But it was not following during the last four years.

Christin Jaulmes  said the birth registration is very important for all the countries. Bangladesh has already in acted law regarding this.

She said that it’s success depends on computerized registration of birth and death of all the citizens.
