Taking recourse to cheap drink: rectified sprits claim 2 in Kushtia

KUSHTIA: At least two people died after drinking rectified spirits on Sunday evening at Targunia Bazar in Daulatpur upazila in the district, as they took recourse to taking cheaper drink.

The deceased are Rokon Uddin Biswas, 42, brother of a lawmaker, and Pinu Sarder, 40.

Another two fell sick and were admitted into a hospital “in critical condition”, medical sources said.

Witnesses said after taking the toxic liquid all four became sick and were taken to Daulatpur Health Complex. Pinu Sarder died in the complex and Rokon Uddin, brother of local MP Afaz Uddin, died while being shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

Hafizur Rahman, Officer-in-charge of Daulatpur Police Station, told banglanews that they were informed about the death of two people after having rectified spirits.

Police were “yet to decide action over the deaths”, he said.
