Taxicab driver slaughtered in city

DHAKA: Unidentified assailants slaughtered a taxicab driver in the city`s Sheorapara area early Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Rabiul Islam, 35, son of Iliyas Uddin at Jahuribagh Moholla in Mirpur.

Mirpur Model Thana SI Jalaluddin said four miscreants, in the guise of passengers, haired the cab at Mirpur 10 Gol Chattar for going to Malibagh at about 1am.

“The assailants swooped on Rabiul and slaughtered him inside the vehicle when it reached at Sheorapara,” he said.

As local night guards rushed to the spot, hearing the driver’s screams, the miscreants fled by another car.  

On information, patrol police of Mirpur thana sent Rabiul to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
 
Police suspected miscreants might have slaughtered Rabiul to hijack his cab.
