Blacklisted company fails to get Bangabandhu Bridge repair works: fresh tender being invited

DHAKA: Government authorities cancelled the work order awarded to a Chinese firm for repairing the cracks on the Bangabandhu Bridge as the company is blacklisted for jerrybuilding an important link road.
The Cabinet Purchase Committee also decided to invite fresh tender for the repairs to be done by another company.
Joint Secretary of the Cabinet Division Nurul Karim told journalists about the decisions after a meeting Wednesday.
The Secretary said, “The government has cancelled the tender awarded to the lowest bidder, China Road and Bridge Corporation, as it was blacklisted earlier. There are some anomalies in the documents of the company. So, the committee asked for calling fresh tender as soon as possible.”
The committee also approved two proposals for establishing two more power plants at Ghorasal in Narsingdi and Shikalbaha in Chittagong.
American company Max Power and British company DG Weaver will implement the schemes.
Another meeting of the Cabinet Purchase Committee approved the proposals for setting up Shahjalal Fertilizer Factory in Sylhet and purchase of relief goods worth Tk 14 crore.
