CHAPAINAWABGANJ: Four powerful remote-controlled bombs were planted under the gallery of the new stadium here Sunday apparently in an abortive bid for subversive acts.

On information, elite-force RAB from Rajshahi recovered the bombs tucked under the sand outside the gallery.

Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Thana Ahsanul Haque told banglanews that one youth informed them after finding something wrapped with red tape under the gallery at about 8am.

Later, police informed the RAB-5 unit based in Rajshahi and an expert team of the Rapid Action Battalion drove in fast. “They retrieved the bombs buried into the sand at about 2pm,” the OC said.  

Explosives expert Ansarul Haque said, “If the remote-controlled bombs had exploded, it might cause massive damage.”

It was not clear whether there was any sport match or political programme in or outside the stadium.
