Asia Foundation donates 4000 books

DHAKA: The Asia Foundation Bangladesh distributed 4000 books with free of cost to 20 academic institutions at Kolatia High School Auditorium in keranigonj on August 31.

The programme was jointly organized by two local NGO named “Akok” and Media Communication Foundation.  

The purpose of this event is to make good quality book available for teachers and students.

Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka attended as the Chief Guest in this event. Deputy Country Representative of The Asia Foundation Saima Anwer, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Babul Mia, Upazilla Chairman Shaheen Ahmed attended as special guests.

Books for Asia Coordinator Ms Sukla Dey was also attended the event along with representatives and students from recipient schools.

The chief guest and special guests spook about the recent situation and challenges of education especially for girls in our society, and discuss the importance of promoting education in academic institutions and encouraged teachers to help their students to read books. Books are the bearer of knowledge; it can work as a bridge to reach to the end of the all violence.

In FY 2012, Books for Asia donated approximately 10,635 books at 109 girls’ Madrassa, schools and colleges all over Bangladesh, benefitting nearly 1,18,975 students. Books for Asia donates more than 50,000 new books annually to approximately 500 academic institutions and public libraries in all of Bangladesh`s seven divisions.

Apart from Book donation, students from Kolatia High School performd different cultural activities along with a short drama that talks about the barriers a girl face in the society.

Chairman of Kolatia School committee Shahjahan Bhuiya chaired the Programme.
