FARIDPUR: At least 50 people were injured including a police official in a fierce clash among villagers of two unions centering a football match in Shaltha Upazila of the district on Sunday noon.

Locals said the villagers of Gotti and Bhawal unions locked into a clash at around 9:00 am Sunday following Saturday’s dispute over a football match, leaving 50 people including Saltha Thana Officer-in-Charge injured.

The injured OC was rushed to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.

The locals also confined the Upazila Chairman and Upazila Nirbahi Officer when they rushed to the spot to settle down the clash.

Additional police forces were deployed in the area and rescued Upazila Chairman and UNO.

Saltha Thana Sub-Inspector Shah Alam confirmed the matter to banglanews.
