Paturia-Daulatia ferry services halted

MANIKGANJ: Ferry services on Paturia-Daulatdia river route have been suspended from Monday night due to navigation disruption.

BIWTC’s Aricha office manager Bidyut Kumar Shaha told banglanews, “Ferrying vehicle remained suspended since 10:00pm Monday, creating long queues of all modes of transport as  Daulatdia -bound ferry ‘Keramat Ali’ with 14 vehicles sailed from Paturia hit a sunken landmass.”

Later,  the services resumed on test by four K-type ferries on the route after 10:30am after a 12-hour halt but they returned Daulatdia Ghat as they did not able to reach at Paturia ghat.

The communications disruption caused immense sufferings to the people stranded on the ferries and on both sides of the ghats.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) is carrying out their dredging work to restore navigability in the river. The ferry services will resume as navigation returned, Bidyut Kumar Shaha added.
