Ferry services resume after 9-hr

CHANDPUR: Ferry services on Chandpur-Shariatpur route resumed after a nine-hour halt due to erosion by river Meghna that devoured pontoon and adjacent areas.

Chandpur Harina Ghat manager Imran Khan Ruhan feared that the ferry services would again be halted at anytime.

Earlier, the authorities suspended ferry operation at around 3:00am after a portion of Harina Ferry Ghat went into the river.

Two ferries---Kishari and Kolmilata—were forced to anchor near the Harina Ghat with numbers of trucks and passenger buses as serious erosion obstruct them to anchor at the ghat.

The disruption in ferry service is causing immense suffering to the commuters of the route as hundreds of vehicles got stranded on both ends of the river.
