BD youth commits suicide in US jail

NEWYORK: A Bangladeshi youth committed suicide at Philadelphia jail in United States of America.

The deceased was identified as Maharram Ali, 21, hailed from Natore.

Sources said winning Diversity Visa (DV) in lottery, Maharram Ali came to US but in a robbery case he was detained in jail.

Philadelphia Jail Hospital Morgue doctor Sam P Gulino MD declared that the victim hanged himself.

A close friend of the victim Joynul Abedin said that Moharram Ali lived with a Bangali manager at Dunkin Donate in Darby.

On April 2012, police held him in two cases for a robbery at a Philadelphia restaurant where he worked and attempt to murder its manager.

Later, he was awarded three years in prison last year in the cases.

Greater north Bengal Society founder president and mainstream politician Hasanuzzaman told banglanews that there was a doubt about the allegations against him.

Meanwhile, necessary steps were taken to send the body to Bangladesh, he added.
