MKA terms Felani verdict injustice

KURIGRAM: Home Minister MK Alamgir on Saturday categorically said Felani murder verdict failed to deliver justice.

The home minister came up with the allegation while talking to journalists after inaugurating the construction works of Nageshwari Thana building in the district.

MK Alamgir said, “The killing of Felani is a disgraceful and tragic incident for both Bangladesh and India,”

He added: “They have not provided the detailed report on the verdict yet and Bangladesh government will issue a formal reaction after getting the report.”

Felani, a 15-year-old girl, was shot dead on Kurigram border by BSF personnel when she got entangled in barbed-wire fences on the frontier on January 7 in 2011. The brutality triggered a huge outcry throughout the country.

The special court, constituted by the Border Security Force of India, in its verdict on Friday acquitted the lone accused, BSF Jawan Amiya Ghosh, of the charge of killing Felani.
