Launch-trawler collision in Shitalakhya: one missing

NARAYANGANJ: A loaded trawler carrying jackfruits sank in the Shitalakhya River near Godnail Padma depot of Siddhirganj on Saturday morning, leaving a passenger missing.

The passenger, Habi, 55, was an inhabitant of Moulvibazar village under Kalkini thana of Madaripur district, Siddhirganj thana Officer-in-Charge Badrul Alam said.

Witnesses and police said that the vessel, loaded with 300 jackfruits, was on its way to Madaripur from Kapashia when a launch, MV Joi, hit it.

“Five passengers could swim ashore but Habi went missing,“ police said.

The divers of Fire Brigade have been on rescue mission.
