DHAKA: The government has sent Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Air Commodore Sakeb Iqbal Khan Majlish back to the Air Force, as an international watchdog reportedly complained some irregularities during his stewardship.

Establishment Ministry Sunday issued a notification replacing him with Air Commodore Mahmood Hossain.

Sakeb Iqbal was appointed in March 2009.

During the Caretaker Government regime, Mahmood Hossain was charged for the CAAB for three months.

Aviation sources said the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) had enlisted CAAB in its Significant Safety Concern (SSC) list for irregularities in CAAB during Sakeb Iqbal’s tenure.

The ICAO, following an oversight safety audit of Bangladesh in May, identified safety vulnerability observing that the local civil aviation regulator, CAAB, has issued licences to air operators “without ensuring full compliance with national regulations and international standards”
