Muhtih against Civil Aviation University

DHAKA: Although Aviation sector experts said that it is high time to establish a Civil Aviation University in the country, Finance minister AMA Muhith rejected it saying there is no need of such kind of university.

The controversial situation was raised in a seminar on ‘Aviation Sector in the Sustainable Development’ at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport’s VVIP terminal on Saturday.

Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) and Bangladesh Monitor jointly organized the seminar.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith was present at the seminar as chief guest and minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry M Faruk Khan MP and Secretary of the ministry Khorshed Alam Choudhury were present as a special guest.

The keynote was presented by (CAAB) Chairman Air Vice-Marshal Mahmud Hossain.

Mahmud Hossain emphasized on establishing Civil Aviation University for sustainable development in the country. He also mentioned the lack of skilled manpower in this field.

He compared Bangladeshi Civil Aviation sector with the other parts of the world and mentioned about the possible sources of finance in this sector in the article.

On the other hand, AMA Muhith rejected his proposal showing some causes that there are so many universities in the country and to open a new one is illogical at this moment.

An aviation school can be opened in this regard in existing universities and the standard of the present service in this field should be better, he observed.

Meanwhile, Faruk Khan MP said the government would help to set up a varsity in this field and a meeting would be held with the chiefs of the banks and other financial institutions for funding of Civil Aviation University in Bangladesh.
