61 clinics, out of 83 in B’baria, are illegal

BRAHMANBARIA: Some 61 out of 83 private clinics and diagnostic centers in Brahmanbaria are illegal!

Among the rest 22 clinics, 12 have applied for their license renewal, two dental clinics have their license and the rest eight has none!

This information was collected from District Civil Surgeon Office.

The number of death is increasing due to the maltreatment in these illegal clinics. The patients are being often cheated and over charged there.

Civil Surgeon Office and local Health Department are not aware of the matter. They have not taken any action rather forming a flaunting investigation committee.

In the last year, at least 10 patients have died in these clinics due to poor treatment.

There are so many incidents which indicate ill-treatment, mismanagement and negligence to duty in those clinics. As examples---

In April 30, 2012, a child named Lutful Kabir Miad, 10, was admitted into a clinic with fever and knee ache under the observation of Dr Monir Hossain and succumbed to his injuries due to poor treatment.

In August 2, of the same year, Sharifa Begum, 36, died due to erroneous operation at Seba Clinic under the treatment of Dr Abdul Mannan. The owner of the clinic Dr Bazlur Rahman admitted the accusation.

After 26 days of this incident, a newborn was died due to negligence of Dr Zakia Sultana.

In September 20, 2012, a pregnant woman Taslima Akter, 25, died in Holy Crescent Hospital for erroneous treatment.

In July 16 of 2013, another pregnant Sharmin Akhter died at The Lab Aid Child and General Hospital for the same reason.

Recently in July 19, a patient Hajera Begum got herself admitted in The Lab Aid Diagnostics Center and Specialized Hospital where the internee duty doctor was charged with taking off her kidney through an operation without her permission.

There was no specific solution or action was taken for these horrific incidents except forming flaunting investigation committees, sources said.

Chairman of Brahmanbaria Clinic Owners Association, Zillur Rahman said Health Department is in charge looking after the incidents.

Acting Civil Surgeon of Brahmanbaria Dr Abu Sayeed told banglanews, “We have already sent written notice to illegal clinics and further actions will be taken immediately if they don’t follow the notice.”
