GAZIPUR: Authorities of most of the readymade garments in Gazipur shut their factories for Saturday following workers’ agitation demanding leave to join a rally in capital.

With a view to pressing home their several demands including pay hike, Sramik Oikya Parishad, a platform of 52 garment workers’ welfare union, is set to hold a grand rally at 2:00pm at Suhrawardy Uddyan in the capital.  

The workers blockaded on Dhaka-Tangail, Dhaka-Mymensingh highways, vandalized few factories, vehicles and roadside shops during agitation.

Nawjor highway police out post sergeant Iqbal Hossain told banglanews, “The workers are now joining in their rally and a peaceful situation is going on now.”
