NARAYANGANJ: A police constable was killed in a road accident on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Sonargaon upazila in the district on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Shahid Mia, 30, hailed from Gazaria of Munshiganj district.

Sources said Shahid was performing his duty in Meghna Old Ferry Ghat area on Saturday night. At one stage, a rashly driven truck knocked him down, leaving him injured critically.

He was rushed to Razarbagh Police Line Hospital and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday noon.

Officer-in-Charge of Sonargaon Thana Atiqur Rahman confirmed the matter to banglanews.
