KUSHTIA: A smuggler was shot dead in a clash with Border guard Bangladesh (BGB) at Daulatpur frontier in the district early Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Samirul Islam, 27, son of Abul Kashem.

Police and BGB sources said BGB-32 battalion personnel challenged a gang of smugglers while they were coming from India with phensedyl.

Meanwhile, the smugglers threw two cocktails aiming BGB personnel and in retaliation BGB personnel also opened fire, leaving Samirul dead on the spot.

Later, BGB recovered 290 bottles phynsedyl from the spot.

Mahishkunda BGB commander Subedar Sakhawat Hossain confirmed the matter to banglanews.
