DHAKA: In the latest move, the government decided to consider the post of Diploma Engineer as Engineer instead of Supervisor amid countrywide protest of Polytechnic students.

The decision came from a meeting of concerned persons with Housing and public works secretary Khandaker Shawkat Hossain and education affairs secretary Kamal Abdul Naser at secretariat on Monday.

After the meeting education affairs secretary said that the Diploma Engineers will be considered as Diploma Engineers instead of Supervisors.

Public works secretary said that the gazette of 2008 was sent to the law ministry for rectification in this regard.

The decision came in the face of countrywide movements by Polytechnic students to press 2-point demands: implementation of Prime Minister’s directives in reduction of salary discrimination of diploma engineers and two inter-ministry committee’s recommendation.
