Dhaka:  Two factions of Chhatra League Monday clashed over distribution of food at a programme of Dhaka University Debating Society (DUDS), leaving three students injured, including a DUDS member.

Campus sources said a group of BCL activists, led by Enamul Haque Prince, went to the TSC at about 2pm for having their lunch where packets of food were distributed at lunch break of the ongoing 4th National Debate Festival.

But, the DUDS members barred them from collecting food and drove them away from TSC, making Prince angry, they said.

“Later, Prince and his associates launched an attack on the DUDS members at about 3pm. The DUDS members also called in their friends, also BCL activists, from Bangabandhu Hall, triggering a clash between the two groups,” says a spot account of the melee.

Of the injured, two were given first aid while DUDS member Miraz, a 1st-year student of Bangla Department and brother of DUDS secretary Riad Morshed, was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Meanwhile, Jasimuddin Hall BCL president Abdur Rahman said, “Prince is not involved with BCL politics and the party would not take any responsibility for this incident.”

DU proctor Dr. Saiful Islam told banglanews24.com.bd, “ The authority will take stern action against the students responsible for the incident after proper investigation.”
