Shibir-cop clash hurt 5 in N’ganj

NARAYANGANJ: At least five people were injured in a clash between police men and activists of Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, in DIT commercial area of the metropolitan city on Sunday noon.

The identity of the injured could not be found immediately.

Witnesses said Shibir activists brought out a procession at around 11:45am demanding immediate release of their leaders.

Being obstructed by police, Shibir men started throwing brick chips at law enforcers that triggered chase and counter chase between the groups, leaving five people injured.

Meanwhile, police opened blank shot to bring the situation under control and at one stage Shibir activists set fire on roads that created panic among locals.

Confirming the matter Narayanganj Sadar Model police station Officer-in-Charge Manjur Kader told banglanews, “Shibir men brought out a sudden procession and police dispersed them.”

During the chase and counter chase, a youth was injured and sent him to hospital, he added.
