DHAKA: The government has given approval the proposal for ratification of Extradition Treaty with India.
The approval came from the regular meeting of the cabinet at secretariat with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair Monday.
After the meeting, Cabinet Secretary M Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan made the disclosure while talking to journalists.
He said, “If the treaty is passed in the parliament, it will help both the countries to extradite most wanted criminals following legal procedures.”
The cabinet secretary also told the journalists that persons accused in political crimes would not come under the purview of the treaty.
Earlier in January, the home ministers of Bangladesh and India signed the treaty and India has already ratified the treaty in its cabinet.
