BHOLA: A fisherman was shot dead and 19 others were abducted by sea robbers in Shibchar coastal area of the Bay of Bengal on Tuesday night.

The deceased was identified as Iqbal Ibrahim, 35, son of Mohijal Mridha of Charsiba village under Charfashion upazila of the district.

Sources said the robbers also shot another fisherman and the victim was rushed to Charfashion Upazila Health Complex in critical condition.

Some fishermen went to the Bay of Bengal by two trawlers few days ago.

On Tuesday night, a group of sea robbers attacked them and shot two, leaving Iqbal dead on the spot and another one injured.

The robbers also abducted 19 fishermen from Tofael Majhi’s trawler at that time.

Officer-in-Charge of Charfashion Thana Abul Bashar confirmed the matter to banglanews.
