3 die 'consuming toxic liquor' in Kushtia

Three youths died after reportedly drinking toxic liquor during the celebration of Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival for Bengali Hindu community, in Kushtia on Wednesday morning.

The deceased are- Ripon Kumar Ghosh, 32, son of Vabesh Ghosh, hailing from Kalibari bazar area in Khoksa upazila, Nitai Biswas, 35, son of late Debendranath Biswas, from Kantodah village in Mirpur upazila and Anik Biswas, 21, son of Tapan Biswas, from Bara Ailchara in Kushtia sadar upazila.

Dr Tapash Kumar Sarkar, resident medical officer of Kushtia General Hospital, said the victims fell sick after consuming liquor last night. They came to hospital at different times between 12:00 am to 3:00 am and they died successively at the hospital while undergoing treatment.

Confirming the matter, SM Tanvir Arafat, superintendent of police in Kushtia, said police are looking into the matter of consuming toxic alcohol.
